Benefits in Brief

The university offers a competitive total rewards package, including benefits for all benefits-eligible employees and their dependents.

  

Active employees working at least 20 hours per week with an appointment time of at least four and a half months or longer are eligible to enroll in benefit plans. Non-benefits eligible employees may access benefits marked with an asterisk (*).

The resources on this page apply to academic campus employees. Coverage options are available for Sept. 1, 2025 – Aug. 31, 2026 and are subject to change in subsequent plan years. Learn more about .

UT SELECT is a self-funded medical Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBS).

UT Select Dental offers a standard or plus plan administered by Delta Dental or a fully-insured dental HMO plan administered by DeltaCare USA.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires the university to offer medical insurance benefits to employees who average 30 work hours or more per week for 90 days, or 130 hours per month for 90 days, or 1,560 hours for the 12-month look-back period.

Administered by Superior Vision, this plan offers two fully insured vision plan options, standard or plus.

Administered by Express Scripts, this plan allows you to utilize both retail and mail-order pharmacies.

Provides death benefits for you and your dependents.

Tax-exempt spending accounts are available to reimburse eligible medical and day care expenses.

Provides insurance benefits in the event of accidental death or certain bodily injuries which occur as a result of a covered accident, for you and your dependents.

The primary retirement plan is the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS). Depending on job title and FTE, some employees may be eligible to elect the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP).

Provides income protection if you become disabled due to illness or a non-occupational injury.

The voluntary retirement plans include UT Saver Tax Sheltered Annuity program (403b) and Deferred Compensation plan (457b). These plans allow you to contribute a portion of your salary on a tax-deferred basis, with a Roth after-tax option through authorized financial institutions.

Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

Eligible employees may take up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave for qualifying family or medical reasons. Leave may be used continuously, intermittently and/or on a reduced schedule and runs concurrently with available paid leave, disability benefits and worker's compensation.

Vacation, Sick and Leave Pool

As a Texas state agency, we offer paid vacation, sick leave and other leave.

Paid Holidays

In addition to leave accruals, we observe several holidays throughout the year.

Employee Success Center (ESC)*

The university is committed to supporting you through a variety of resources, both virtual and in-person. These include wellness programs, professional development opportunities and a range of employee perks such as Awards & Recognition, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), the Employee Discount Program (EDP) and the Employee Educational Benefit (EEB).

Workplace Injury*

Workers’ Compensation Insurance (WCI) provides medical benefits and, in some cases, temporary financial support for work-related injuries or occupational illness.

Employees can opt for a membership at Campus Rec, which offers variety of facilities and programs.
