A Roadrunner provides a glimpse into the foster care experience
Life is often not easy for children in the foster care system, as Sombrilla Magazine uncovers in our feature story "Fixing a Broken System." While many children don鈥檛 find a permanent home through adoption, UTSA sophomore Blue Hess did. Jens and Irma Hess entered Blue Hess鈥� life at a critical point in his tenure with the Texas foster care system. 鈥淚 was well aware when I first went into foster care that, at 18, you鈥檙e kicked out of the system,鈥� he says. 鈥淎s I was in the system getting older, foster parents were telling me, 鈥業f you don鈥檛 get adopted over the next two years, you鈥檙e never going to get adopted鈥� because older kids are always the last to get adopted.鈥�
