A Roadrunner provides a glimpse into the foster care experience
Life is often not easy for children in the foster care system, as Sombrilla Magazine uncovers in our feature story "Fixing a Broken System." While many children don鈥檛 find a permanent home through adoption, UTSA sophomore Blue Hess did. Jens and Irma Hess entered Blue Hess鈥 life at a critical point in his tenure with the Texas foster care system. 鈥淚 was well aware when I first went into foster care that, at 18, you鈥檙e kicked out of the system,鈥 he says. 鈥淎s I was in the system getting older, foster parents were telling me, 鈥業f you don鈥檛 get adopted over the next two years, you鈥檙e never going to get adopted鈥 because older kids are always the last to get adopted.鈥
