Conversation Starters With Your Roadrunner

Conversation Starters:
Conversations with your Roadrunner
Helping your student navigate the end of the academic year
As the school year ends, many college students are busy with finals, making summer plans, and considering their next steps, whether that means finding a job, starting an internship, or simply taking time to rest. Parents can help during this transition by offering support, encouragement, and opportunities for reflection, rather than trying to solve every problem. Having open, relaxed conversations can help your students reflect on what they’ve learned, set goals, and feel supported as summer approaches.
Here are some conversation starters to help you connect and talk with your students during this busy time of year.
Conversation Starters
- What kind of summer experience are you hoping to have: work, internship, rest, or all three?
- What does ‘success’ look like for you this finals period?
- What’s something you’re proud of yourself for accomplishing this year?
- What’s one thing you’d do differently if you could redo this semester?
- Who had the biggest impact on your year—professors, friends, or mentors?
- What surprised you about yourself this year?
