From miles above earth, a crescent-shaped, 400-mile long scab of light extends across South Texas just south of San Antonio. These lights are so bright, they rival those emanating from the state's major metropolitan centers. But these lights illuminate more than 220 derricks drilling for oil across 20 counties 24 hours a day. These are the lights from the Eagle Ford Shale.
